Love each other, not just the tip
Thirty-eight years of teaching the head and the hand in the same room. The torch, the book and the hammer have been on our seal since the day we opened, and we have never once had to explain why.

Academics
Four faculties. One workbench.
Union High has never separated the study from the shop. A pupil who reads Virgil in the morning is expected to cut a decent mortise in the afternoon, and the marking is equally unsentimental in both.

Thirty-one benches, one very old suspicious stain in Lab 2, and a strict rule that a result you cannot reproduce is a story, not a finding.

The hammer and the saw. Timber, metal, circuitry and repair. Nothing leaves the workshop until it works, and works twice.

The clue is in the name. How people organise, hold each other to account, and keep a promise made in a room they have all left.
School life
The rooms remember more than the register does.
The gym floor still squeaks in the same place. The cafeteria trays are still stacked wrong. The library keeps the yearbooks in order and the spines are all cracked in the same three places, which tells you which years get looked at.
Every room in the school is on the map below, and every one of them is open on reunion night. Some of them are sacred. Some of them, frankly, are doomed.

Cut into the stone above the main door in 1987 by the first cohort of the Craft faculty. The Latin was checked by the Letters faculty, who have declined every subsequent request to revisit the translation.
